What You’ll Learn

Tuition: $695 USDBeginnerTwo-day boot campKnowledge test + practical assessment

Teaches layout, straight cuts, mortar handling, setting, and grout on a small dry-area panel. Advanced Tile adds wet-area system detailing, large-format challenges, and diagnostic documentation.

Before you start: No prior tile experience required.

Planned teaching timetable: 8:30 AM–4:30 PM on Day 1 and Day 2, including breaks and lunch. This is the planned class schedule; actual class dates, daily times and venue will be confirmed before enrollment.

By the end, you should be able to

  • Check a training substrate and record preparation needs.
  • Plan balanced tile layout and calculate basic quantities.
  • Make controlled straight/notched cuts using approved equipment.
  • Set tile with consistent joints and verify mortar contact against the selected product requirements.
  • Grout a cured sample and inspect the installation sequence.

Day 1 — Foundations and guided practice

8:30–9:00

Silica, sharp-edge, wet-tool and lifting controls; station setup.

9:00–10:30

Tile/substrate types, compatibility, layout lines, movement accommodation, and quantities.

10:30–10:45

Break

10:45–12:00

Demonstrate cutting, mixing by instructions, mortar handling, and lifting a sample tile to inspect contact.

12:00–12:45

Lunch and drinks included

12:45–2:15

Dry-lay a small pattern and prepare a cut list before setting.

Grouting and cleanup on pre-cured panels; wet-area waterproofing system awareness.

10:30–10:45

Break

10:45–12:00

Individual knowledge test: 10 course-specific questions; 20 available points.

3:00–4:00

4:00–4:30

Feedback, correction plan, certificate eligibility review, and recommended next steps.

Your hands-on project

Lay out and set a small dry-area tile board, demonstrate a lifted-tile contact check, and grout a separately pre-cured sample. Produce a quantity worksheet and curing sequence.

Final knowledge test

Ten questions specific to Tile Installation Fundamentals, covering the skills, decisions, calculations and safety boundaries taught in this course. Each question is worth two points. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%).

The instructor provides the test after training. Approved accessibility support may change how you respond while keeping the same learning standard.

Practical assessment

Complete the course project and demonstrate the skills individually. Five criteria are scored from 0–4. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%), with no criterion below 2 and every critical safety check passed.

What your instructor will assess

  • Control dust/cutting hazards and verify substrate readiness.
  • Produce a balanced layout and correct quantity/cut plan.
  • Make sound cuts and select compatible materials.
  • Set the sample to posted joint/alignment standards and verify contact.
  • Grout the cured sample and document cure, movement, and inspection needs.

Training boundaries: Wet/dust-controlled cutting only under instructor setup. Grout and finishing use pre-cured samples. A class tile board is not a waterproof shower qualification.

Earn your certificate of completion

  • Complete both days and all required learning activities; missed content must be made up.
  • Pass the knowledge test and practical assessment separately; a strong score in one does not cancel a failed result in the other.
  • Pass every critical safety check and receive the instructor’s sign-off.

If you need more practice, your instructor records the missing skills and assigns focused review and reassessment. Certificates are issued only after all requirements are met.

Your certificate records completion of this Construction Guys course. It is not a contractor license, trade license, or authorization to perform regulated work independently.

Next learning step: Advanced Tile Installation. Your instructor can help you choose based on demonstrated skills.
