Your Class Plan
What You’ll Learn
Moves from a dry-area tile board to shower-system continuity, large-format installation, transitions, and failure diagnosis. Manufacturer-branded examples do not imply manufacturer certification.
Before you start: Tile Installation Fundamentals or instructor-approved equivalent. Students must demonstrate layout, cutting, material selection, and coverage checks.
Planned teaching timetable: 8:30 AM–4:30 PM on Day 1 and Day 2, including breaks and lunch. This is the planned class schedule; actual class dates, daily times and venue will be confirmed before enrollment.
By the end, you should be able to
- Trace waterproofing continuity across drains, corners, seams, and penetrations.
- Plan a compatible shower/curbless detail with structural and access constraints referred appropriately.
- Check large-format substrate readiness, handling, layout, and mortar contact.
- Interpret heating-system and natural-stone compatibility documents.
- Document a staged water-test plan and diagnose system failures.
Day 1 — Foundations and guided practice
8:30–9:00
Prerequisite sample review, slab handling, dust controls, and training-system boundaries.
9:00–10:30
Water management: substrate, slope, drains, membranes, corners, seams, and penetrations.
10:30–10:45
Break
10:45–12:00
Demonstrate compatible system details and compare deliberate continuity failures.
12:00–12:45
Lunch and drinks included
12:45–2:15
Construct a small waterproofing corner/penetration detail using one specified system.
2:15–2:30
Break
2:30–3:45
Plan large-format layout and perform supervised handling/contact checks on supported samples.
3:45–4:30
Review inspection points and a water-test plan that respects product cure and local requirements.
Day 2 — Application, assessment and next steps
8:30–9:00
Inspect staged cured waterproofing samples and interpret test observations.
9:00–10:30
Curbless transitions, heated-floor documentation, mosaics, natural stone, and movement joints.
10:30–10:45
Break
10:45–12:00
Diagnose leaking/poor-contact scenarios and prepare a repair proposal without mixing incompatible systems.
12:00–12:45
Lunch and drinks included
12:45–2:15
Complete an individual detail sample, quality record, and client-facing scope explanation.
2:15–2:30
Break
2:30–3:00
Individual knowledge test: 10 course-specific questions; 20 available points.
3:00–4:00
Individual practical/project assessment, using the course rubric and observations gathered during the project.
4:00–4:30
Feedback, correction plan, certificate eligibility review, and recommended next steps.
Your hands-on project
Build and inspect one waterproofing corner/penetration mock-up and one large-format sample. Submit a complete system-detail checklist, manufacturer-based test plan, and diagnosis of a seeded failure. Testing uses a previously cured assembly when required.
Final knowledge test
Ten questions specific to Advanced Tile Installation, covering the skills, decisions, calculations and safety boundaries taught in this course. Each question is worth two points. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%).
The instructor provides the test after training. Approved accessibility support may change how you respond while keeping the same learning standard.
Practical assessment
Complete the course project and demonstrate the skills individually. Five criteria are scored from 0–4. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%), with no criterion below 2 and every critical safety check passed.
What your instructor will assess
- Plan safe handling/cutting and confirm the specified system.
- Maintain documented membrane continuity at all sample transitions.
- Assess substrate and large-format layout before setting.
- Verify contact and compatible movement/edge details.
- Prepare a valid cure/test/inspection record and evidence-based failure diagnosis.
Training boundaries: No live heated-floor electrical connections, improvised drain/membrane combinations, or premature flood testing. Structural modifications require approved design.
Earn your certificate of completion
- Complete both days and all required learning activities; missed content must be made up.
- Pass the knowledge test and practical assessment separately; a strong score in one does not cancel a failed result in the other.
- Pass every critical safety check and receive the instructor’s sign-off.
If you need more practice, your instructor records the missing skills and assigns focused review and reassessment. Certificates are issued only after all requirements are met.
Your certificate records completion of this Construction Guys course. It is not a contractor license, trade license, or authorization to perform regulated work independently.
Next learning step: Estimating & Project Management. Your instructor can help you choose based on demonstrated skills.
