Your Class Plan

What You’ll Learn

Tuition: $595 USDBeginner introductionTwo-day boot campKnowledge test + practical assessment

A first experience with tools and a small wall project. Framing Fundamentals is the next step: plan-based wall systems, openings, sheathing, and inspection records.

Before you start: No construction experience required.

Planned teaching timetable: 8:30 AM–4:30 PM on Day 1 and Day 2, including breaks and lunch. This is the planned class schedule; actual class dates, daily times and venue will be confirmed before enrollment.

By the end, you should be able to

  • Identify framing tools, inspect them, and set up a safe work area.
  • Read a tape, mark a cut list, and check measurements against a sketch.
  • Identify studs, plates, openings, and appropriate fasteners on a training wall.
  • Assemble and check a small nonstructural wall frame with instructor guidance.
  • Explain the work completed, materials used, and what needs further practice.

Day 1 — Foundations and guided practice

8:30–9:00

Orientation, tool inspection, work-zone rules, and an individual measuring check.

9:00–10:30

Tape fractions, square and level, lumber sizes, framing vocabulary, and reading a simple sketch.

10:30–10:45

Break

10:45–12:00

Instructor demonstration: mark, support, cut, and fasten stock; students rehearse with supervision.

12:00–12:45

Lunch and drinks included

12:45–2:15

Create a cut list and practice repeatable measurements on scrap before cutting project pieces.

2:15–2:30

Break

2:30–3:45

Teams assemble a low training wall; each learner measures, fastens, and checks one assigned section.

3:45–4:30

Compare diagonals, identify mistakes, record material use, and complete a short exit quiz.

Day 2 — Application, assessment and next steps

8:30–9:00

Review yesterday’s errors and demonstrate safe setup without step-by-step prompting.

9:00–10:30

Opening components and fastening choices; guided practice on a door/window-opening sample.

10:30–10:45

Break

10:45–12:00

Complete the individual capstone station and a simple customer handoff note.

2:15–2:30

Feedback, correction plan, certificate eligibility review, and recommended next steps.

Your hands-on project

Build a bench-height, non-load-bearing frame to the instructor’s 48 x 48 inch outside-dimension sketch, including a simple opening. Work on supported stands; do not raise or attach it to a building. Submit a cut list, measurement check, and material tally.

Final knowledge test

Ten questions specific to Framing & Carpentry, covering the skills, decisions, calculations and safety boundaries taught in this course. Each question is worth two points. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%).

The instructor provides the test after training. Approved accessibility support may change how you respond while keeping the same learning standard.

Practical assessment

Complete the course project and demonstrate the skills individually. Five criteria are scored from 0–4. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%), with no criterion below 2 and every critical safety check passed.

What your instructor will assess

  • Inspect tools and control the work zone before starting.
  • Prepare a correct cut list and identify wall components.
  • Mark and cut sample pieces within 1/8 inch of the training sketch.
  • Assemble the mock-up to the sketch; compare diagonals and correct visible misalignment.
  • Explain fastener choice, defects found, cleanup, and material use.

Training boundaries: Instructor-controlled cutting stations and supported mock-ups only. No load-bearing alterations or unsupervised nail-gun use.

Earn your certificate of completion

  • Complete both days and all required learning activities; missed content must be made up.
  • Pass the knowledge test and practical assessment separately; a strong score in one does not cancel a failed result in the other.
  • Pass every critical safety check and receive the instructor’s sign-off.

If you need more practice, your instructor records the missing skills and assigns focused review and reassessment. Certificates are issued only after all requirements are met.

Your certificate records completion of this Construction Guys course. It is not a contractor license, trade license, or authorization to perform regulated work independently.

Next learning step: Framing Fundamentals. Your instructor can help you choose based on demonstrated skills.
