Course Overview
Master the Fundamentals of Electrical Work
Develop the essential skills needed to understand and perform basic residential electrical installations safely. This beginner-friendly boot camp introduces electrical safety, hand tools, wire types, switches, receptacles, lighting, and basic circuit fundamentals through practical training.
Course tuition: $795 USD per student.
Your Class Plan
What You’ll Learn
Builds a complete disconnected residential branch-circuit trainer from a diagram. Electrical Basics concentrates on identification; Advanced Residential Electrical adds load planning, panel schedules, and diagnostic reasoning.
Before you start: No formal prerequisite. Electrical Basics is recommended; all learners complete the opening component and safety check.
Planned teaching timetable: 8:30 AM–4:30 PM on Day 1 and Day 2, including breaks and lunch. This is the planned class schedule; actual class dates, daily times and venue will be confirmed before enrollment.
By the end, you should be able to
- Interpret a simple residential circuit diagram and prepare a material list.
- Identify conductor, box, device, and protection requirements from supplied references.
- Lay out and assemble a disconnected switch/receptacle/light teaching board.
- Inspect connections, mechanical protection, labeling, and conductor identification.
- Document instructor-observed checks and explain when qualified field help is required.
Day 1 — Foundations and guided practice
8:30–9:00
Component/safety check, energy-control responsibilities, and the no-live-mains boundary.
9:00–10:30
Circuit paths, conductor functions, branch-circuit diagrams, and supplied code/product references.
10:30–10:45
Break
10:45–12:00
Demonstrate boxes, cable support, mechanical protection, device terminals, and connection inspection.
12:00–12:45
Lunch and drinks included
12:45–2:15
Plan a training circuit and assemble the disconnected box/cable layout.
2:15–2:30
Break
2:30–3:45
Prepare and terminate teaching-board connections under direct instructor supervision.
3:45–4:30
Check against the diagram and document defects before any instructor-controlled model demonstration.
Day 2 — Application, assessment and next steps
8:30–9:00
Revisit electrical safety, diagram interpretation, and first-day corrections.
9:00–10:30
GFCI/AFCI concepts, switching variations, continuity on disconnected components, and labeled circuit records.
10:30–10:45
Break
10:45–12:00
Complete the board and investigate instructor-seeded faults using disconnected trainers.
12:00–12:45
Lunch and drinks included
12:45–2:15
Individually inspect and correct an assigned section and prepare a circuit handoff sheet.
2:15–2:30
Break
2:30–3:00
Individual knowledge test: 10 course-specific questions; 20 available points.
3:00–4:00
Individual practical/project assessment, using the course rubric and observations gathered during the project.
4:00–4:30
Feedback, correction plan, certificate eligibility review, and recommended next steps.
Your hands-on project
Assemble a disconnected switch, receptacle, and light training board to an instructor-approved diagram. Submit the material list and inspection sheet. The assessment concerns safe assembly and reasoning; learners never connect it to a building supply.
Final knowledge test
Ten questions specific to Electrical Fundamentals, covering the skills, decisions, calculations and safety boundaries taught in this course. Each question is worth two points. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%).
The instructor provides the test after training. Approved accessibility support may change how you respond while keeping the same learning standard.
Practical assessment
Complete the course project and demonstrate the skills individually. Five criteria are scored from 0–4. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%), with no criterion below 2 and every critical safety check passed.
What your instructor will assess
- Maintain energy-control boundaries and suitable tool practices.
- Interpret the diagram and choose the specified components.
- Assemble sound mechanical supports and protected cable paths.
- Produce inspected, labeled connections matching the approved diagram.
- Identify a seeded fault and document checks without unsafe energization.
Training boundaries: No learner work on energized mains, service equipment, or live panels. Any powered demonstration uses a purpose-built protected trainer controlled by the qualified instructor.
Earn your certificate of completion
- Complete both days and all required learning activities; missed content must be made up.
- Pass the knowledge test and practical assessment separately; a strong score in one does not cancel a failed result in the other.
- Pass every critical safety check and receive the instructor’s sign-off.
If you need more practice, your instructor records the missing skills and assigns focused review and reassessment. Certificates are issued only after all requirements are met.
Your certificate records completion of this Construction Guys course. It is not a contractor license, trade license, or authorization to perform regulated work independently.
Next learning step: Advanced Residential Electrical. Your instructor can help you choose based on demonstrated skills.
