Your Class Plan
What You’ll Learn
Moves to load-planning decisions, panel schedules, dedicated circuits, EV charging scenarios, and structured fault diagnosis. It is a planning and trainer workshop, not live service-upgrade training.
Before you start: Electrical Fundamentals or instructor-approved equivalent. Demonstrate diagram reading, safe disconnected assembly, and conductor/device identification.
Planned teaching timetable: 8:30 AM–4:30 PM on Day 1 and Day 2, including breaks and lunch. This is the planned class schedule; actual class dates, daily times and venue will be confirmed before enrollment.
By the end, you should be able to
- Build a residential load worksheet from a supplied scenario and current reference procedure.
- Read a panel schedule and identify compatibility and documentation gaps.
- Plan dedicated-circuit/EV charging information for qualified design review.
- Distinguish symptoms, evidence, and causes in a disconnected diagnostic exercise.
- Prepare a correction record with permits, manufacturer requirements, and inspection hold points.
Day 1 — Foundations and guided practice
8:30–9:00
Prerequisite check, service/panel hazards, lockout responsibilities, and training boundaries.
9:00–10:30
Load versus breaker totals; supplied demand-calculation method and service-capacity information.
10:30–10:45
Break
10:45–12:00
Read panel schedules, equipment labels, breaker compatibility, grounding/bonding concepts, and approved details.
12:00–12:45
Lunch and drinks included
12:45–2:15
Complete a worked load-planning worksheet and identify missing field information.
2:15–2:30
Break
2:30–3:45
Lay out a disconnected panel/circuit display using specified components and labeling.
3:45–4:30
Review the proposed scope, uncertainty, and the points that require qualified design/utility/AHJ coordination.
Day 2 — Application, assessment and next steps
8:30–9:00
Explain yesterday’s calculations and correct assumptions from peer review.
9:00–10:30
Dedicated circuits and EV charging: ratings, continuous-load concepts, load management, and manufacturer documents.
10:30–10:45
Break
10:45–12:00
Diagnose seeded open/incorrect connections on disconnected trainers; build an evidence log.
12:00–12:45
Lunch and drinks included
12:45–2:15
Complete an individual load case, panel-schedule review, and written correction/inspection plan.
2:15–2:30
Break
2:30–3:00
Individual knowledge test: 10 course-specific questions; 20 available points.
3:00–4:00
Individual practical/project assessment, using the course rubric and observations gathered during the project.
4:00–4:30
Feedback, correction plan, certificate eligibility review, and recommended next steps.
Your hands-on project
Prepare a supplied home-addition/EV scenario load worksheet, annotated panel schedule, and permit/inspection questions. Diagnose a disconnected trainer fault and explain the evidence; no live-panel work is assessed.
Final knowledge test
Ten questions specific to Advanced Residential Electrical, covering the skills, decisions, calculations and safety boundaries taught in this course. Each question is worth two points. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%).
The instructor provides the test after training. Approved accessibility support may change how you respond while keeping the same learning standard.
Practical assessment
Complete the course project and demonstrate the skills individually. Five criteria are scored from 0–4. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%), with no criterion below 2 and every critical safety check passed.
What your instructor will assess
- Observe electrical energy-control limits without prompting.
- Use the supplied calculation method accurately and identify assumptions.
- Identify panel/device compatibility and documentation issues.
- Reach a supported diagnosis using an orderly disconnected-trainer process.
- Produce a complete scope, correction record, and review/inspection plan.
Training boundaries: No live panel entry, service connection, breaker installation in energized equipment, or actual EV commissioning. Final selection/design is subject to qualified review and applicable local requirements.
Earn your certificate of completion
- Complete both days and all required learning activities; missed content must be made up.
- Pass the knowledge test and practical assessment separately; a strong score in one does not cancel a failed result in the other.
- Pass every critical safety check and receive the instructor’s sign-off.
If you need more practice, your instructor records the missing skills and assigns focused review and reassessment. Certificates are issued only after all requirements are met.
Your certificate records completion of this Construction Guys course. It is not a contractor license, trade license, or authorization to perform regulated work independently.
Next learning step: Commercial Electrical. Your instructor can help you choose based on demonstrated skills.
