What You’ll Learn

Tuition: $695 USDBeginner introductionTwo-day boot campKnowledge test + practical assessment

An orientation to electrical components, hazards, diagrams, and safe observation. Electrical Fundamentals adds a complete de-energized branch-circuit training build.

Before you start: No electrical experience required.

Planned teaching timetable: 8:30 AM–4:30 PM on Day 1 and Day 2, including breaks and lunch. This is the planned class schedule; actual class dates, daily times and venue will be confirmed before enrollment.

By the end, you should be able to

  • Distinguish sources, loads, switches, protective devices, and conductor functions.
  • Recognize electrical hazards and explain when to stop and seek qualified help.
  • Read a basic circuit diagram and trace a simple current path on a training model.
  • Inspect sample cords and identify components without opening energized equipment.
  • Document symptoms clearly and explain the limits of beginner electrical work.

Day 1 — Foundations and guided practice

8:30–9:00

Orientation and electrical hazard scenarios; identify the course’s no-live-work boundary.

9:00–10:30

Voltage, current, resistance, open/closed circuits, and household system components.

10:30–10:45

Break

10:45–12:00

Read a simple switch-and-light diagram and match symbols to loose components.

12:00–12:45

Lunch and drinks included

12:45–2:15

Sort sample conductors, boxes, devices, and protective components using labels and diagrams.

2:15–2:30

Break

2:30–3:45

Build a current-limited extra-low-voltage teaching circuit under instructor control.

3:45–4:30

Explain current paths, compare open-circuit faults, and record questions for review.

Day 2 — Application, assessment and next steps

8:30–9:00

Hazard review and tool-condition checks; distinguish observation from electrical work.

9:00–10:30

GFCI/AFCI purpose, panel-label awareness, and safe escalation of tripping or overheating.

10:30–10:45

Break

10:45–12:00

Trace instructor-seeded faults on a disconnected or current-limited model; prepare a symptom report.

12:00–12:45

Lunch and drinks included

12:45–2:15

Complete a component-identification and hazard-recognition station independently.

2:15–2:30

Break

2:30–3:00

Individual knowledge test: 10 course-specific questions; 20 available points.

3:00–4:00

Individual practical/project assessment, using the course rubric and observations gathered during the project.

4:00–4:30

Feedback, correction plan, certificate eligibility review, and recommended next steps.

Your hands-on project

Label a disconnected residential teaching board, trace a switch/light diagram, and diagnose an open connection on a current-limited teaching model. Give a written escalation plan for a damaged cord and a repeatedly tripping circuit.

Final knowledge test

Ten questions specific to Electrical Basics, covering the skills, decisions, calculations and safety boundaries taught in this course. Each question is worth two points. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%).

The instructor provides the test after training. Approved accessibility support may change how you respond while keeping the same learning standard.

Practical assessment

Complete the course project and demonstrate the skills individually. Five criteria are scored from 0–4. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%), with no criterion below 2 and every critical safety check passed.

What your instructor will assess

  • Identify hazards and keep all mains equipment disconnected.
  • Correctly identify at least eight of ten labeled components/functions.
  • Trace source, control, and load in the supplied diagram.
  • Explain an open-circuit fault using safe model observations.
  • Produce a clear symptom report and appropriate referral decision.

Training boundaries: No energized mains wiring, panel entry, or service work. A qualified instructor controls all teaching power; learner models are disconnected or specifically current-limited extra-low-voltage trainers.

Earn your certificate of completion

  • Complete both days and all required learning activities; missed content must be made up.
  • Pass the knowledge test and practical assessment separately; a strong score in one does not cancel a failed result in the other.
  • Pass every critical safety check and receive the instructor’s sign-off.

If you need more practice, your instructor records the missing skills and assigns focused review and reassessment. Certificates are issued only after all requirements are met.

Your certificate records completion of this Construction Guys course. It is not a contractor license, trade license, or authorization to perform regulated work independently.

Next learning step: Electrical Fundamentals. Your instructor can help you choose based on demonstrated skills.
