A quick business-math check.
A product costs $200 and sells for $250. What is the gross profit margin as a percentage of the selling price?
A. 50% B. 25% C. 80% D. 20%
Show the answer and explanation
D. 20%. Gross profit is $250 − $200 = $50. Margin uses the selling price: $50 ÷ $250 × 100 = 20%. Dividing by the $200 cost gives a 25% markup instead. The book walks you through both so you can tell them apart.
From Chapter 4's original practice checkpoint. Practice questions are educational examples, not actual exam questions.
A NOTE FROM CLIFTON
I wanted a place where people could learn this.
I started Construction Guys in 2015 with two friends and a lot to learn. We learned through real jobs, hard lessons, and customers who didn't pay. I know what it feels like to want a future in construction and not know where to begin.
That's why this book starts with the basics and connects them to the bigger picture: understanding the work, preparing for your exams, and developing toward a construction company you can stand behind. Read a lesson. Work the example. Try the questions. Keep building.

Are the printed book and PDF the same book?
Yes. Both include the same lessons, illustrations, questions, and explanations. They are formatted for their different uses: reading a printed book and reading on a screen. Printed chapters begin on right-hand pages, so page numbering and blank pages can differ. You are getting the same study material in both formats.
What happens after I buy?

Will this help me prepare for the exams and my license?
The book gives you a structured way to learn the trade and business concepts, work through calculations, and practice exam-style reasoning. Studying actively, checking the explanations, and revisiting weak areas can strengthen your preparation. It also explains the application route and exam-day preparation.
Passing an exam and qualifying for a license are separate steps. This independent book is not required or endorsed by CSLB or PSI, and no passing result is guaranteed. You must meet CSLB eligibility, experience, application, and other licensing requirements. Check CSLB’s official exam information for current instructions.
Build your knowledge. Take your next step.
