Your Class Plan
What You’ll Learn
Builds precision and finish quality: scribing, trim joints, door reveals, cabinet leveling, and punch-list inspection rather than structural framing.
Before you start: Basic measuring, safe saw use, and simple carpentry experience. Framing & Carpentry or an instructor skills check is recommended.
Planned teaching timetable: 8:30 AM–4:30 PM on Day 1 and Day 2, including breaks and lunch. This is the planned class schedule; actual class dates, daily times and venue will be confirmed before enrollment.
By the end, you should be able to
- Measure openings and prepare a trim/cabinet cut list.
- Choose and produce suitable miter, cope, and scribed sample joints.
- Set a prehung door training unit with consistent reveals and smooth operation.
- Level a base cabinet mock-up and identify safe wall-cabinet support/anchorage requirements.
- Inspect fit and finish and prepare a customer-ready punch list.

Your hands-on project
Fit a trim corner and casing section, adjust a training door, and level a base-cabinet module to the supplied layout. Inspect the work under raking light and document remaining finish issues. Wall cabinets are instructor-supported demonstrations, not solo lifts.
Final knowledge test
Ten questions specific to Finish Carpentry, covering the skills, decisions, calculations and safety boundaries taught in this course. Each question is worth two points. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%).
The instructor provides the test after training. Approved accessibility support may change how you respond while keeping the same learning standard.
Practical assessment
Complete the course project and demonstrate the skills individually. Five criteria are scored from 0–4. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%), with no criterion below 2 and every critical safety check passed.
What your instructor will assess
- Use safe saw/clamp/dust-control procedures.
- Prepare an accurate cut list and consistent reference/reveal marks.
- Produce tight, flush sample joints that meet the instructor’s posted sample standard.
- Set the door/cabinet mock-up level and functional with appropriate specified fastening.
- Document finish defects, corrections, and a clear handoff.
Training boundaries: Supported cabinet units and controlled saw stations. No unsupported overhead cabinet lifting, blind fastening into unknown services, or structural alteration.
Earn your certificate of completion
- Complete both days and all required learning activities; missed content must be made up.
- Pass the knowledge test and practical assessment separately; a strong score in one does not cancel a failed result in the other.
- Pass every critical safety check and receive the instructor’s sign-off.
If you need more practice, your instructor records the missing skills and assigns focused review and reassessment. Certificates are issued only after all requirements are met.
Your certificate records completion of this Construction Guys course. It is not a contractor license, trade license, or authorization to perform regulated work independently.
Next learning step: Estimating & Project Management. Your instructor can help you choose based on demonstrated skills.
