Your Class Plan
What You’ll Learn
Develops inspection and diagnostic judgment before selecting a cleaning method. Camera and cable exercises use clean training lines; hydro-jetting is planning/demonstration only.
Before you start: Plumbing Fundamentals or demonstrated knowledge of drain layouts, cleanouts, traps, and safe tool handling.
Planned teaching timetable: 8:30 AM–4:30 PM on Day 1 and Day 2, including breaks and lunch. This is the planned class schedule; actual class dates, daily times and venue will be confirmed before enrollment.
By the end, you should be able to
- Map fixture symptoms to a probable branch/main-line location.
- Assess cleanout access, chemical history, pipe condition, and equipment limitations.
- Inspect a clean training line with a camera and create a location/defect log.
- Use a selected cable trainer under direct supervision and recognize stop conditions.
- Prepare a cleaning/referral recommendation based on evidence rather than assumption.
Day 1 — Foundations and guided practice
8:30–9:00
Rotating cable, pressure, contamination, chemical, and confined-space hazard recognition.
9:00–10:30
Drain layouts, symptom interviews, cleanouts, access, and choosing an inspection sequence.

Your hands-on project
Inspect a clean mock sewer line, identify and locate three seeded conditions, demonstrate the approved cable-trainer setup/stop procedure, and produce a service recommendation with photographs or sketches.
Final knowledge test
Ten questions specific to Drain Cleaning & Sewer Systems, covering the skills, decisions, calculations and safety boundaries taught in this course. Each question is worth two points. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%).
The instructor provides the test after training. Approved accessibility support may change how you respond while keeping the same learning standard.
Practical assessment
Complete the course project and demonstrate the skills individually. Five criteria are scored from 0–4. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%), with no criterion below 2 and every critical safety check passed.
What your instructor will assess
- Identify chemical, rotating-equipment, pressure, and exposure hazards.
- Select an appropriate inspection sequence and confirm access/pipe information.
- Operate the clean camera trainer and keep a useful location log.
- Demonstrate safe selected-equipment setup and immediate stop response.
- Differentiate cleaning from repair needs and explain an evidence-based recommendation.
Training boundaries: No live sewage, manhole/confined-space entry, chemical drain cleaners, or learner high-pressure jetting. Cable handling/PPE follows the specific machine instructions; no generic glove rule substitutes for them.
Earn your certificate of completion
- Complete both days and all required learning activities; missed content must be made up.
- Pass the knowledge test and practical assessment separately; a strong score in one does not cancel a failed result in the other.
- Pass every critical safety check and receive the instructor’s sign-off.
If you need more practice, your instructor records the missing skills and assigns focused review and reassessment. Certificates are issued only after all requirements are met.
Your certificate records completion of this Construction Guys course. It is not a contractor license, trade license, or authorization to perform regulated work independently.
Next learning step: Estimating & Project Management. Your instructor can help you choose based on demonstrated skills.
