What You’ll Learn

Tuition: $995 USDBeginner to intermediate orientationTwo-day boot campKnowledge test + practical assessment

An equipment-awareness and controlled-practice workshop. It compares lifts, forklifts and earthmoving machines, while assessing only the specific trainer/equipment actually used; it does not certify operation of every machine in the catalog.

Before you start: Complete the instructor’s suitability and safety briefing for the equipment used. Specific machine models and participation requirements will be announced before enrollment.

Planned teaching timetable: 8:30 AM–4:30 PM on Day 1 and Day 2, including breaks and lunch. This is the planned class schedule; actual class dates, daily times and venue will be confirmed before enrollment.

By the end, you should be able to

  • Compare equipment categories and identify where additional machine-specific training is needed.
  • Use an operator manual and inspection checklist to identify defects and limitations.
  • Plan exclusion zones, spotter communication, ground conditions, and emergency stops.
  • Demonstrate a controlled task on the announced trainer/equipment under direct supervision.
  • Record the exact equipment/model, task, observations, and limits of the assessment.

Day 1 — Foundations and guided practice

8:30–9:00

Orientation, equipment categories, pedestrian interaction, and no-operation-before-briefing rule.

9:00–10:30

Read operating limits, load/stability information, warning labels, and manuals for the announced equipment.

10:30–10:45

Break

10:45–12:00

Demonstrate pre-use inspection and remove-from-service decisions on a stationary trainer.

12:00–12:45

Lunch and drinks included

12:45–2:15

Practice site walk-throughs, exclusion zones, spotter signals, and emergency communication.

2:15–2:30

Break

2:30–3:45

Supervised familiarization on the specific announced equipment or purpose-built simulator; laser-level layout practice.

3:45–4:30

Record model-specific observations and individual questions; review near-miss cases.

Day 2 — Application, assessment and next steps

8:30–9:00

Repeat the individual inspection and stop-response check.

9:00–10:30

Compare lifts, forklifts, skid steers and mini excavators through documented cases, including overhead/ground hazards.

10:30–10:45

Break

10:45–12:00

Supervised controlled-task practice on the announced machine/trainer only; no unassessed substitutions.

12:00–12:45

Lunch and drinks included

12:45–2:15

Complete an individual inspection, site-risk plan, and observed selected-equipment task.

2:15–2:30

Break

2:30–3:00

Individual knowledge test: 10 course-specific questions; 20 available points.

3:00–4:00

Individual practical/project assessment, using the course rubric and observations gathered during the project.

4:00–4:30

Feedback, correction plan, certificate eligibility review, and recommended next steps.

Your hands-on project

Prepare a site-risk/exclusion-zone plan, inspect the announced machine or simulator, and complete a controlled task under direct instructor supervision. Record the exact make/model, task, and whether the assessment used a simulator or actual equipment.

Final knowledge test

Ten questions specific to Construction Equipment Training, covering the skills, decisions, calculations and safety boundaries taught in this course. Each question is worth two points. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%).

The instructor provides the test after training. Approved accessibility support may change how you respond while keeping the same learning standard.

Practical assessment

Complete the course project and demonstrate the skills individually. Five criteria are scored from 0–4. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%), with no criterion below 2 and every critical safety check passed.

What your instructor will assess

  • Recognize defects/unsafe conditions and stop before operation.
  • Locate and explain the relevant manual/operating limits.
  • Set out a suitable work zone and communication plan.
  • Demonstrate controlled operation or the assigned simulation without breaching instructions.
  • Complete an accurate equipment-specific assessment record and explain remaining training needs.

Training boundaries: No unsupervised operation, personnel lifting, suspended loads, excavation entry, or work near live utilities. This school completion certificate is not employer authorization, a universal operator card, or a substitute for required equipment/workplace evaluation.

Earn your certificate of completion

  • Complete both days and all required learning activities; missed content must be made up.
  • Pass the knowledge test and practical assessment separately; a strong score in one does not cancel a failed result in the other.
  • Pass every critical safety check and receive the instructor’s sign-off.

If you need more practice, your instructor records the missing skills and assigns focused review and reassessment. Certificates are issued only after all requirements are met.

Your certificate records completion of this Construction Guys course. It is not a contractor license, trade license, or authorization to perform regulated work independently.

Credential scope: The completion record names the specific machine/trainer and task assessed. It is not universal operator certification or employer/site authorization.

Next learning step: OSHA & Safety. Your instructor can help you choose based on demonstrated skills.
