Course Overview
Master Advanced Residential Plumbing
Build on your plumbing fundamentals by learning advanced residential plumbing systems used in modern homes. This boot camp covers water heaters, tankless systems, gas piping, venting, pressure testing, rough plumbing, fixture installation, and troubleshooting through real-world, hands-on training.
Course tuition: $895 USD per student.
Your Class Plan
What You’ll Learn
Focuses on coordinated rough-in, water-heater system planning, vent/gas documentation, and diagnosis. Gas and combustion topics are classroom/disconnected-model work.
Before you start: Plumbing Fundamentals or instructor-approved equivalent; demonstrate material compatibility, measured assembly, and safe water-test planning.
Planned teaching timetable: 8:30 AM–4:30 PM on Day 1 and Day 2, including breaks and lunch. This is the planned class schedule; actual class dates, daily times and venue will be confirmed before enrollment.
By the end, you should be able to
- Coordinate fixture rough-in against drawings, access needs, and other trades.
- Compare storage/tankless installation requirements using selected manufacturer documents.
- Identify safety-critical relief, expansion, venting, combustion, and gas-sizing questions.
- Plan an appropriate test and inspection sequence without guessing pressures or fuel requirements.
- Prepare an evidence-based fault report and correction scope.
Day 1 — Foundations and guided practice
8:30–9:00
Prerequisite check, pressure/temperature/gas hazards, and explicit no-live-fuel boundary.
9:00–10:30
Coordinated rough-in, access, support, drainage/vent relationships, and fixture requirements.
10:30–10:45
Break
10:45–12:00
Compare disconnected storage/tankless displays and trace safety devices and service access.
12:00–12:45
Lunch and drinks included
12:45–2:15
Prepare a rough-in drawing and manufacturer-reference checklist for a case home.
2:15–2:30
Break
2:30–3:45
Build a clean supported piping detail and identify conflicts before concealment.
3:45–4:30
Review pressure-test documentation, inspection hold points, and unresolved design questions.
Day 2 — Application, assessment and next steps
8:30–9:00
Review case assumptions and correct incompatible or inaccessible details.
9:00–10:30
Gas supply/combustion/venting theory, capacity documentation, relief discharge and expansion scenarios.
10:30–10:45
Break
10:45–12:00
Diagnose supplied water-heater/pressure/flow cases using evidence and manufacturer fault information.
12:00–12:45
Lunch and drinks included
12:45–2:15
Complete an individual rough-in review, test plan, and client correction report.
2:15–2:30
Break
2:30–3:00
Individual knowledge test: 10 course-specific questions; 20 available points.
3:00–4:00
Individual practical/project assessment, using the course rubric and observations gathered during the project.
4:00–4:30
Feedback, correction plan, certificate eligibility review, and recommended next steps.
Your hands-on project
Produce an annotated water-heater/fixture rough-in package from supplied drawings and product manuals, assemble one disconnected piping detail, and diagnose a seeded case. Include safety-device, access, test and inspection records.
Final knowledge test
Ten questions specific to Advanced Plumbing, covering the skills, decisions, calculations and safety boundaries taught in this course. Each question is worth two points. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%).
The instructor provides the test after training. Approved accessibility support may change how you respond while keeping the same learning standard.
Practical assessment
Complete the course project and demonstrate the skills individually. Five criteria are scored from 0–4. Pass mark: 16 out of 20 (80%), with no criterion below 2 and every critical safety check passed.
What your instructor will assess
- Identify pressure, temperature, gas and combustion stop-work conditions.
- Coordinate a complete rough-in drawing and compatible components.
- Use manufacturer documents to flag relief/venting/access issues.
- Prepare the correct reference-based test/inspection sequence.
- Support the diagnosis and correction scope with documented evidence.
Training boundaries: No live gas connections, burner startup, combustion adjustment, or improvised pressure testing. Relief devices are never capped. Qualified trade personnel handle field commissioning.
Earn your certificate of completion
- Complete both days and all required learning activities; missed content must be made up.
- Pass the knowledge test and practical assessment separately; a strong score in one does not cancel a failed result in the other.
- Pass every critical safety check and receive the instructor’s sign-off.
If you need more practice, your instructor records the missing skills and assigns focused review and reassessment. Certificates are issued only after all requirements are met.
Your certificate records completion of this Construction Guys course. It is not a contractor license, trade license, or authorization to perform regulated work independently.
Next learning step: Drain Cleaning & Sewer Systems. Your instructor can help you choose based on demonstrated skills.
